6 Killed In Road Accident In Belagavi, Rs 5 Lakh Ex Gratia Announced For Kin Of Deceased
Six devotees who were traveling to a temple in Karnataka’s Savadatti town died after their pick-up van hit a tree. The incident happened in Hulkunda village of Belagavi district. A total of 16 others, who were injured in the accident, are currently undergoing treatment.
Around 23 devotees from Hulkunda village were on their way to the temple. The injured are getting treatment at hospitals in Gokak and Ramdhurga. Five people died on the spot, and one succumbed to injuries while on the way to the hospital.
The deceased were identified as Hanumappa (25), Deepa (31), Kumari Saveetha (11), Maruthi (42), and Indra (24). They hailed from Hulkunda Village in Karnataka's Belagavi district..
"State minister Govind Karjol announced ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of deceased," said news agency ANI, in a tweet.
A few minutes after they boarded the accident took place killing five persons on the spot and another died while being taken to the hospital. A preliminary investigation revealed that the accident occurred due to rash and negligent driving.
The Bolero goods vehicle was carrying 23 passengers. About 16 persons were injured in the incident and they have been shifted to nearby hospitals. Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjeev Patil rushed to the spot.
