
Tragic Accident: Oil Tanker Hits Labourers on Belagavi Highway, 3 Dead and 3 Injured
In a tragic accident that occurred on Sunday afternoon, June 1, 2025, three labourers returning home after completing repair work on the national highway in Belagavi district were mowed down by an oil tanker near Itagi Crossing in Kittur taluk. Three other individuals sustained injuries in the devastating incident.
The deceased have been identified as Ramachandra Jadhav (45), his son Mahesh Jadhav (18), and another worker, Ramesh (38). All three died on the spot. The injured include Bhimava (55), who suffered bilateral leg amputations, and Lakshmibai Jadhav (38), and Anushree (18). The injured are currently receiving treatment at the Belagavi District Hospital. Police confirmed that both the deceased and the injured hail from Kalaburagi.
According to police, the oil tanker lost control, hit the labourers, and subsequently overturned on the service road. Dinesh Shetty (45), the tanker driver from Mangaluru, was also injured in the incident and is undergoing treatment. A team from the Kittur Police Station, along with Superintendent of Police Dr. Bhimashankar Guleda, visited the accident site for inspection. A case has been registered at the Kittur Police Station.
Lakshmibai, wife of the deceased Ramchandra, shared her grief, stating, "A total of 6 of us came to work at 7 am. Since it was a Sunday, we had finished work at noon and left for home. The tanker driver was talking on the phone. As we were looking around, the vehicle suddenly hit us. My husband, son, and another person died on the spot. Two others and I were injured. It had been eight months since we came to work here. Now my husband and son, who were my support, have left me alone."
