Belagavi Central GST Commissionerate has registered a record collection of Rs.10,172 Crores

1.     The Belagavi Central GST Commissionerate, has registered a record collection of Rupees 10,172 Crore during the financial year 2021-22. Such GST collection is a sign of robust economic growth and an indicator that the country has moved away from the shadows of the pandemic. The jurisdiction of Commissionerate is huge and it is spreads over the twelve Districts of North Karnataka including Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Koppal, Vijayanagara, Bellary, Raichur, Yadgir, Gulbarga, Bidar, Vijayapura and Bagalkot. The record collection is also an indication of vibrant and robust economic activity in these districts. It highlights the enterprising nature inherent in the population in this region.

 

2.     2,30,566 taxpayers are registered under GST in these districts, and these are administered by either the State or the Central GST authorities. From the taxpayers registered under the Central GST regime, Rs.10172 crores was collected by Belagavi Central GST formation. The Commissionerate’s revenue for 2019 20 was Rs.7,677 Crore, for 2020-21 it was Rs.7,124 Crore and for the year 2021-22 it is Rs.10,172 Crore which is 43% more than previous years collection. The Major industries of Steel, Cement, Mining, Sugar such as JSW Steel, Kesoram Industries, Orient Cement, NMDC etc. are operating in the jurisdiction of this Commissionerate. Besides a huge number of traders have also contributed to the record GST collection.

 

3.     During the fiscal year, the Belagavi GST Commissionerate has taken up various steps to facilitate taxpayer compliance. The Commissioner had extensive interactions with members of the trade bodies, heard their problems and issued directions for resolving them. Further to facilitate trade and industry by ensuing timely availability of working capital, timely sanctioning of eligible GST refunds is ensured, and it is monitored closely by the Commissioner. As part of the nation’s Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav, a Taxpayer facilitation centre is created at GST Bhavan, Club Road, Belagavi to assist trade and industry.

 

4.     The Commissionerate has also done well in acting against the evaders of tax. A huge consignment of Arecanut worth Rupees seven Crore was confiscated in September 2021 as it was being transported without e-way bill. These perishable areca nuts have been successfully auctioned and the amount recovered. Anti evasion wing has also recovered Rs. 3 Cr in Cash and Rs. 503 Cr in ITC by booking 101 number of cases in this financial year. It had detected Rs. 549 Cr tax evasion and the recovery process is under way. Both the Central and State authorities are cross empowered under the GST law to act against tax evaders..

 

5.     On completion of the financial year 2021-22 on high note, the Commissioner of Belagavi CGST Commissionerate Shri. Baswaraj Nalegave requested the trade to file the GST returns on time to avoid and late fees. Further he requested taxpayers to avail only the eligible input tax credit to avoid litigations. He informed that the Artificial Intelligence induced data mining mechanism is highly evolved and this would intensify the action against defaulters on larger scale in the days to come. This mechanism would acknowledge the efforts of the honest tax payers. He highlighted the fact that there is also an increased communication and coordination between Centre and State GST officers to address GST defaulters.

 

He further welcomed the small and medium enterprises to opt for Composition or QRMP scheme.
