Belagavi, Karnataka – In a shocking and tragic incident that has left the city in mourning, a 29-year-old young adult brutally murdered a young girl after she refused to marry him and then took his own life. The horrifying event unfolded on Tuesday near Nath Pai Circle in Shahpur, Belagavi, sending shockwaves through the local community.
The victim, identified as 20-year-old Aishwarya Mahesh Lohar, was staying at her aunt’s house when the accused, Prashant Kundekar, a painter from Yellur village, arrived armed with a bottle of poison and a knife. Prashant had reportedly been pursuing Aishwarya for over a year and had even approached her mother to express his desire to marry her. However, her family had advised him to focus on building a stable future before considering marriage.
On the fateful day, Prashant allegedly pressured Aishwarya to accept his proposal once again. When she refused, he tried to force her to drink poison. As she resisted, he pulled out a knife and slit her throat, leading to her death due to excessive blood loss. In a tragic turn of events, Prashant then used the same knife to end his own life.
Senior police officials, including City Police Commissioner Yada Martin, are investigating the case. The incident has sparked outrage and sorrow among locals, with many calling for greater awareness around mental health and the dangers of unchecked obsession.
