Belagavi Police Crack Down on Cyber Fraud: Two Arrested for Fake Facebook Account Impersonating SP Bhimashankar S. Guled

Belagavi Police recently discovered a fake Facebook account pretending to be SP Bhimashankar S. Guled, IPS, the Superintendent of Police for Belagavi district. This fake account sent friend requests to the officer’s friends and followers, posted a fake birthday message, and then began tricking people into thinking they were speaking to the real officer.

The scammer targeted those who sent birthday wishes by offering to sell expensive items like fridges and air conditioners for very low prices, using the officer’s name to gain trust. Claiming they had to quickly sell these items because of a transfer, the scammer asked for money upfront. The fraudster attempted to deceive users by offering items like refrigerators and air conditioners valued at ₹12 lakhs for only ₹90,000 or ₹1.2 lakhs, using the officer’s name as an assurance.

As soon as the police learned about this, they started investigating. They tracked down one person in Uttar Pradesh and discovered the main suspect was actually operating from Rajasthan. This suspect had also created fake accounts pretending to be other Karnataka police officers to try to scam more people.

The Belagavi SP has warned everyone not to trust any messages from people pretending to be police officers and asking for money. Officials will never ask for money through social media or messaging apps. The police are still investigating and ask people to report any suspicious messages and not send money online to strangers.
