Belagavi Tragedy: Three Family Members Die by Suicide in Joshi Mala, Khasabhaga; One Critical

In a heartbreaking incident in Khasabhaga, Belagavi, three members of the same family allegedly died by suicide after reportedly consuming poison on Wednesday morning. A fourth member remains in critical condition.

The deceased have been identified as Mangala Kuradekar (70), her son Santosh Kuradekar (44), and daughter Suvarna Kuradekar (42). Another daughter, Sunanda Kuradekar (40), is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital, where her condition is stated to be critical.

The incident occurred around 9 a.m. at their residence in Joshi Mala, Khasabhaga. Police officials from Shahapur station quickly arrived at the scene, and Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase later visited the location. Authorities have confirmed the recovery of a suicide note written in Marathi, allegedly by Santosh Kuradekar.

According to the note, Santosh was involved in a chit fund business based on gold certificates. He alleged harassment by a goldsmith, to whom he had reportedly handed over 500 grams of gold. The note claims that when he requested the gold back, the goldsmith and his wife allegedly threatened him and spread false rumours, leading to severe mental distress.

"Three people died in a mass suicide attempt, and one of them is currently critical. A death note has been recovered, and the matter is under investigation," said Commissioner Borase.

Locals expressed shock and sorrow over the tragedy. Anjana Raikar, a neighbour, said, "They were quiet, kind people who regularly volunteered at the nearby Hari Mandir. We never imagined they were under such pressure."

Another acquaintance, Mahesh Vernekar, noted that Santosh had been under financial stress for some time due to debts related to his business. "He was calm and never spoke of problems. This is devastating," he added.

Police are continuing their investigation based on the contents of the suicide note. The names of individuals mentioned in the letter are being verified, and further legal action will follow based on the findings.
