Belagavi Tragedy Two Brothers, Aged 9 and 7, Drown in Water-Filled Pit Left by Sand Miners

In a heartbreaking incident in Sambaragi village, two young brothers — Deepak (9) and Ganesh (7) — lost their lives after falling into a large water-filled pit left behind by sand miners. The tragedy happened while they were returning home in a bullock cart with their father.

The pit was dug near a stream for sand mining and had filled with water. As the bullock cart passed by, it slipped into the pit. Their father, Sanjay Kamble, tried to save them, but the water was too deep. Sadly, he couldn’t pull them out in time.

Another son, Akshay, was also injured in the fall and has been admitted to the hospital.

This has shocked the entire village. Locals say these pits, dug illegally for sand, are left open and become dangerous traps when they fill with water. “This is not just an accident — this is the result of carelessness and greed,” said a villager.

The police in Athani have registered a case and are investigating. Villagers are demanding strict action against the sand miners who put lives at risk.

This tragedy has once again raised serious questions about illegal sand mining and the lack of safety measures in rural areas.
