Belgaum Sugars to initiate Cloud Seeding Mission to Rescue Drought-Hit Farmers in Belagavi District
Belgaum Sugars, which is owned by Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi, will carry out cloud seeding in Belagavi district on Friday. “The exercise is part of the company’s social welfare activity and the unit is not seeking any government support,” Mr. Jarkiholi told journalists in Belagavi on Thursday.
“We hope it will help farmers in the drought-hit district,” he said.
The initiative aims to help drought-hit farmers in the
district, where 12 out of 14 taluks are on the state government's drought-hit
list. Similar cloud seeding experiments in other districts have yielded
significant rainfall.
The cloud seeding flight, operated by Kyathi Climate Modification Consultants, will perform two seeding runs in the district on the same day first at 1 p.m. and again, at 4 p.m., departing from Hyderabad and returning in the evening with the necessary permissions and priority at local airports.
What is Cloud Seeding?
Cloud seeding is a weather modification technique that
improves a cloud's ability to produce rain or snow by introducing tiny ice
nuclei into certain types of subfreezing clouds. These nuclei provide a base
for snowflakes to form.
