Club Road to be Renamed After Late B Shankaranand; Ceremony on Saturday
Club Road in Belagavi city will soon be renamed in honour of senior Congress leader and former Union minister, the late B Shankaranand. The formal naming ceremony is set to take place this Saturday, organised by the B Shankaranand Birth Centenary Celebration Committee, led by his son, Pradeep Kanagali.
B Shankaranand represented the Chikodi Lok Sabha constituency for several terms and served in the Union cabinet for over 20 years, holding key portfolios. In recognition of his contributions, the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) passed a unanimous resolution in 2024 to rename Club Road after him.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Pradeep Kanagali shared that a foundation stone for a statue of the late leader will also be laid at Club Road Circle, located in front of his residence. Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara will lead the ceremony, with Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi also present.
Prominent guests expected at the event include KLES chairman Dr. Prabhakar Kore, Karnataka's Delhi representative Prakash Hukkeri, MPs Jagadish Shettar and Priyanka Jarkiholi, former MP Ramesh Katti, and former MLA Firoz Sait. Local leaders such as MLAs Abhay Patil and Asif Sait, Mayor Mangesh Pawar, and Deputy Mayor Vani Joshi will also be felicitated during the programme.
