
Former Goa MLA Lavoo Mamledar Dies After Assault by Auto-Driver in Belagavi
Belagavi: Former Goa MLA Lavoo Mamledar passed away after being assaulted by an auto-driver in broad daylight at Khade Bazaar on Saturday.
Mamledar (68), a former MLA from Ponda, Goa, was staying at Hotel Srinivas in Khade Bazaar. The incident occurred when he was leaving the hotel premises in his car and got into an altercation with an auto-driver, who alleged that Mamledar's vehicle had brushed against his auto.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Rohan Jagadeesh informed Deccan Herald that the argument escalated, and the auto-driver struck Mamledar on the temple.
Following the assault, Mamledar managed to walk back inside the hotel but collapsed at the reception. He was immediately rushed to Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences District Hospital, where he was declared dead after diagnosis.
Police have detained the auto-driver and are in the process of identifying him. A case of murder has been registered.
