Heavy Rains Create Havoc in Belagavi District: Roads Flooded, One Life Lost

Heavy rain has been falling non-stop in Belagavi and nearby areas for the last four days. Because of this, many low-lying areas are now full of water, and life has been badly affected.

A sad incident happened in Gokak, where a house collapsed due to the rain, and a young girl lost her life. People are heartbroken by this tragic news.

The Belagavi–Goa road through Chorla has also been closed. The Kasamalagi bridge was submerged in water, and the alternative road nearby was washed away, making travel very difficult.

The Krishna River and its small rivers are overflowing because of the rain. Many small bridges have gone underwater, and vehicles cannot pass. Villages in Nippani Taluk like Barwad-Kunnur, Sidnal-Kunnur, and Akkol-Signal are now cut off from each other.

In Belagavi Fort Road, water from drains and gutters is flowing onto the road, causing big traffic jams. People are angry and asking why the corporation has not fixed this problem even though it happens every year.

A big tree fell on Hindalga Road, stopping traffic for hours.

Other places like Savadatti, Bailhongal, Kittur, Raibag, Athani, Nippani, Chikodi, Khanapur, Ramdurg, Hukkeri, Gokak, and Mudalagi have also faced heavy rain and problems.

In Nippani taluk, a road and a safety wall collapsed on the way to Shendur village. There is a well near the road, and people are scared to drive there, thinking their vehicles might fall into the well.

The Malaprabha River in Khanapur is also overflowing. Rain in the Western Ghats has made the situation worse.

According to government officials, about 25,000 cusecs of water is flowing into the Krishna River, and 40,000 cusecs is being released from the Hipparagi reservoir. The rivers are flooding even before the monsoon has fully started, and it looks like dams may fill up earlier than usual.

People across the district are worried, helpless, and hoping the rain will slow down soon. Many are also asking the government to act quickly and fix the roads and drains before things get worse.
