Holiday Declared on 27 July in Belgaum District Schools and Anganwadi Centers Due to Forecasted Rain; Strict Measures Imposed on Tourists Visiting Waterfalls for Safety
According to the instructions from District Collector Nitesh Patil, all primary, high secondary schools, and Anganwadi centers in the district will remain closed on Thursday (July 27) due to the predicted rainfall.
The decision to declare a holiday comes in response to a yellow alert issued by the Meteorological Department for Belgaum on Thursday, raising concerns about the safety of children.
The announcement about the holiday was made by Belgaum District Information Officer, Gurunath Kadabur, through a press release. While six talukas in the district had a holiday on Wednesday, this Thursday, all schools across the entire district will observe a holiday.
Last Wednesday night, Collector Nitesh Patil had already issued a flash flood alert, urging people to avoid flood-prone areas. In light of the heavy rains in the district, the Collector has implemented strict measures to ensure public safety.
In particular, there are now strict restrictions on tourists visiting waterfalls to prevent tragic incidents, such as road collapses near the falls that have resulted in fatalities in other parts of the state. Public access to waterfalls in forested areas has already been restricted, and movements near the falls in Belgaum are now closely monitored.
Despite the restrictions, tourists will still be able to view some of the famous waterfalls in the district, like Gokak, from safe distances. Tour guides, police personnel, and forest department officials have been deployed to oversee these areas and ensure visitors' safety.
Collector Nitesh Patil has appealed to tourists to exercise caution while visiting these waterfalls and to be vigilant about potentially hazardous locations. The administration prioritizes the safety of all visitors and residents during this period of inclement weather.
Please note that schools will remain closed on Thursday as per the orders of the District Collector.
