Karnataka Declares Public Holiday to Honour Former CM S.M. Krishna
The Karnataka government has declared a public holiday on Wednesday, December 11, for all government offices, schools, and colleges, including aided educational institutions, in honour of former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna. The state will observe a three-day mourning period from December 10 to 12.
During this time, the national flag will be flown at half-mast at all government buildings, and no cultural or entertainment events will be organised by the state.
S.M. Krishna, aged 92, passed away on December 10 at 2:45 AM. Recognised for transforming Bengaluru into India’s Silicon Valley, he will be cremated with full state honours on Wednesday in his hometown of Mandya.
A distinguished political figure, Krishna was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honour, in 2023. Born on May 1, 1932, in Somanahalli, Mandya district, he also served as Maharashtra’s Governor and Karnataka Assembly Speaker during his remarkable career.
