Police Rescue Kidnapped Businessman Within 24 Hours, Four Arrested

In a swift operation, Belgaum police successfully rescued a kidnapped real estate businessman within 24 hours and arrested four accused involved in the crime.

Providing details to the media, District Superintendent of Police Dr. Bhimashankar Guled stated that businessman Basavaraj Ambi, a resident of Rajapur village in Mudalagi taluk, was abducted. Acting swiftly, a special police team comprising personnel from Ghataprabha and Nippani police stations was formed to track him down. Following an intensive operation, the police raided a location, rescued the victim, and apprehended the kidnappers.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Eshwar Ramganatti, Sachin Kamble, Ramesh Kamble, and Raghavendra Marapur. Dr. Guled further revealed that investigations suggest more individuals may be involved in the crime. "We will take them into custody and initiate legal proceedings against them," he added.

Kidnappers Demanded ₹5 Crore Ransom

According to police reports, Basavaraj Ambi had alleged involvement in illegal activities, which the kidnappers were aware of. Believing that he would not report the crime, they abducted him and demanded a ₹5 crore ransom from his son. However, Basavaraj’s wife approached the police and lodged a complaint, leading to the swift operation and arrest of the accused within a day.

Threat Calls to the Family

Basavaraj was kidnapped on February 14, and four days later, on February 18, the kidnappers called his wife, demanding the ransom. Following their instructions, the family took the money to Nippani. However, when the kidnappers noticed that the relatives had accompanied them instead of arriving alone, they issued a chilling threat over the phone: "Since you brought others along, we will kill your husband."

Fearing for her husband's life, Basavaraj’s wife immediately reported the incident to the police, leading to his timely rescue. The investigation is ongoing to determine if more individuals were involved in the crime.
