RCB's IPL Victory Celebrations Turn Tragic: 28-Year-Old Fan Dies in Belagavi; 11 Killed in Bengaluru Stampede

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) historic maiden IPL title win has been overshadowed by two tragic incidents in Karnataka.

  • Belagavi Tragedy:
  • In Avaradi village of Mudalagi taluk, Belagavi district, 28-year-old Manjunath Irappa Kambar, a devoted RCB fan, suffered a fatal heart attack while celebrating Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s historic IPL victory. Kambar had organized a large celebration in his village, foregoing sleep and meals to ensure its success. Overwhelmed with joy after RCB's win, he collapsed while dancing during the post-match festivities. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in nearby Mahalingapur, but doctors declared him dead.

  • Bengaluru Stampede:
  • In Bengaluru, a massive crowd gathered outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium to celebrate RCB's victory. The event turned tragic when a stampede occurred, resulting in at least 11 deaths and over 30 injuries. The chaos unfolded as thousands of fans attempted to enter through a single gate, overwhelming security. The victims included a woman and a child, with several pronounced dead upon arrival at local hospitals.

The celebration parade from Vidhana Soudha to the stadium was subsequently cancelled due to safety concerns. Authorities have filed an FIR against RCB, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and event management company DNA Entertainment Networks for alleged criminal negligence in organizing the victory parade.

These incidents have cast a shadow over RCB's landmark victory, raising concerns over event safety and crowd management in major public gatherings.
