15-Day Deadline for All Autorickshaws to Install & Operate Fare Meters
In a major move to improve transparency in public transport, the Belagavi district administration has directed all autorickshaws operating within the city limits to install and operate fare meters within 15 days.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan, attended by officials from the Regional Transport Office (RTO), police department, and representatives of autorickshaw owners’ and drivers’ associations.
The administration said the introduction of mandatory fare meters aims to ensure fair and transparent fare collection, prevent overcharging, and protect commuters. Autorickshaw associations agreed to comply with the directive during the meeting.
Revised Auto Fare Structure
- Minimum Fare (First 1.6 km): ₹37
- Additional Fare: ₹15 per kilometre
The revised fare structure has been introduced to balance the interests of passengers while ensuring fair earnings for autorickshaw drivers.
In the same meeting, the administration also directed the RTO to take strict action against private two-wheelers and cars with white number plates being used for commercial passenger transport, stating that such operations are illegal.
Authorities have urged all autorickshaw owners and drivers to complete meter installation within the stipulated 15-day period to comply with the new regulations.
