Belagavi Police Crack Down on Drunk Driving; 138 Cases Registered in One Week

In a major move to enhance road safety, the Belagavi City Police have intensified their drive against drunken driving across the city. Acting on the directions of higher authorities and the Road Safety Committee, special checking drives were conducted to curb incidents of driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to an official press release issued by the Police Commissioner’s Office, Belagavi, strict enforcement was carried out between December 22 and December 29, 2025. During this period, a total of 138 cases were registered against motorists found driving under the influence of alcohol, as per the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Police officials stated that the special drive aimed to reduce road accidents and ensure the safety of pedestrians and commuters. The enforcement teams carried out intensive checks at multiple locations across the city, especially during night hours.

Authorities have warned that such drives will continue in the coming days and urged citizens to follow traffic rules responsibly. “Drunk driving not only endangers the driver but also puts innocent lives at risk. Strict legal action will continue against violators,” the police department stated.

The Belagavi Police have appealed to citizens to cooperate with traffic personnel and contribute to making city roads safer for everyone.
