Can Belagavi Become the Next Indore (India’s Cleanest City)? Corporators Head on ₹60 Lakh Study Tour to Learn Clean City Secrets starting October 26.
Can Belagavi become the next Indore? With this goal in mind, corporators of the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) are embarking on a ₹60 lakh study tour to Indore from October 26 to 30. The purpose of the visit is to study the solid waste management and garbage disposal systems that have helped Indore consistently secure the top spot in India’s annual Swachh Survekshan (cleanliness survey).
The tour, funded under the Swachh Bharat Mission, will include all corporators from the ruling party, two elected representatives from the opposition, and two government-nominated members, along with senior BCC officials. The delegation will first travel from Belagavi to Goa and then take a flight to Indore, returning on October 30 after completing their study.
According to sources, the visit aims to help Belagavi understand how Indore achieved national recognition through effective waste segregation, recycling, public participation, and city-wide cleanliness initiatives. The proposal for the Indore study tour was previously approved in a general body meeting of the corporation.
Officials believe that adopting Indore’s best practices could help Belagavi significantly improve its own sanitation standards and overall cleanliness ranking. The study tour is seen as a step toward turning Belagavi’s aspiration of becoming one of India’s cleanest cities into reality.
