Commissioner Orders Heavy Vehicle Ban during peak hours—Violators to face legal charges, (₹4.17 lakh in fines already collected for 2025)!
In a massive move to reclaim the city’s streets from gridlock, Belagavi City Police Commissioner Borase Bhushan Gulabrao has issued a high-priority mandate banning heavy vehicles during peak hours. The order comes on the heels of startling enforcement data: in 2025, police registered 1,001 “No-Entry” violations, collecting a total of ₹4,17,050 in fines from rule-breakers.
New Heavy Vehicle Restrictions
In a move specifically aimed at protecting school children and commuters during rush hours, the entry of heavy vehicles into the city core has been restricted.
- Morning Ban: 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM
- Evening Ban: 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM
- Enforcement: Any violation will be penalized under Section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The police have noted that heavy vehicle movement has been a primary cause of congestion near major railway gates and school zones.

These rules, which include a partial ban on heavy vehicles and new protocols for private buses, are set to take effect starting January 27, 2026.
New Heavy Vehicle Restrictions

Changes for Private Buses
To clear up “bottleneck” areas, private buses are now prohibited from picking up or dropping off passengers at several major junctions.
- Prohibited Spots: RTO Circle, Triveni Hotel, Ramdev Hotel, and Dharmaveer Sambhaji Maharaj Circle.
- New Designated Points: * Paid parking at Bharatesh School.
- Empty space behind Ashoka Nagar Belagavi One Centre.
- Ashoka Nagar Road from Dharmanath Circle.
No-Parking & Pedestrian Zones
Strict “No-Parking” zones have been established to ensure smooth pedestrian movement:
- Strict No-Parking: On both sides of the road from Triveni Hotel to CBS Circle and from Kirti Hotel Cross to RTO Circle.
- Odd-Even Parking: Implemented on the stretch from Krishnadevaraya (Kolhapur) Circle to the City Corporation Office Cross.
The Commissioner has urged all citizens and vehicle operators to cooperate to make Belagavi roads safer. A special meeting with private bus operators is scheduled for January 27 to ensure smooth transition.
