Interstate “Black Note” Syndicate Busted in Belagavi: 8 arrested

Gokak police have busted a “black note” fraud racket and arrested eight people, including two police constables from Maharashtra. One suspect is still absconding.

The arrests followed a raid at a house near the Hanuman temple in Gokak. Police said the gang cheated people by claiming that ordinary black paper could be converted into real currency using chemicals and heat.

Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan said the accused were involved in a money-doubling scam. Investigators believe the group included local suspects as well as associates from Maharashtra.

How the Scam Worked

According to police, the accused used genuine currency notes coated with black chemical ink so they appeared like plain black paper. During demonstrations, they applied heat and a chemical solution, making it seem as if the paper had turned into real money.

In reality, police said, the suspects secretly replaced the paper with a genuine note prepared in advance. This created the illusion that the process was successful.

After gaining the victim’s trust, the gang allegedly sold bundles of ordinary black paper, promising large returns. For example, a person paying ₹50,000 was told the paper would convert into ₹2 lakh after processing.

Arrests and Seizures

Among those arrested are two Maharashtra police constables — Anand Prakash Narwade from Thane and Diladar Abanishek from Palghar. Other accused include Parashuram Bhimsi Badakari of Gokak, Jayashri Babu Kamble of Mumbai, Manisha Raju Gaikwad of Ahmednagar, and Ujwal Tulsiram Bilane of Jalgaon.

During the raid, police seized a heating machine, chemical solutions, and black papers used in the fraud. Police also said that Parashuram had previously been involved in robbery cases.

The operation was carried out after Sub-Inspector Kiran Mohit received a tip-off about the illegal activity.

Investigation Ongoing

Police have warned the public to be cautious of schemes that promise easy or unrealistic financial gains. Efforts are underway to trace the absconding suspect, and further investigation is in progress.
