Man Attempts Suicide at Belagavi Regional Commissioner’s Office Over Land Conversion Issue
In a concerning incident on Thursday, a 50-year-old man attempted suicide by consuming poison at the Regional Commissioner’s office in Belagavi, reportedly due to frustration over delays in land conversion (NA) approval.
The man has been identified as Rudrayya Amminabavimath, a resident of Ranebennur in Haveri district. He had applied for conversion of two acres of land to non-agricultural (NA) status and had been visiting multiple government offices repeatedly without success.
According to sources, he had earlier submitted an application at the Haveri Deputy Commissioner’s office, where officials informed him that the NA process could not proceed unless the land width issue was resolved.
Disheartened by the prolonged delay, Rudrayya had also approached the Belagavi Regional Commissioner’s office several times. On Thursday, he once again visited the office to meet the Commissioner. However, upon learning that the official was unavailable, he allegedly consumed poison inside the premises.
He was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Further investigation is underway.
