Three youths Allegedly Die from Coal Grate Fumes While Escaping Cold in Aman Nagar Belagavi

A devastating incident occurred Tuesday evening in the Aman Nagar Belagavi, resulting in the accidental deaths of three young men due to carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. The tragedy occurred after the victims used a lit coal grate inside a poorly ventilated room to mitigate the intensified cold.

The deceased have been identified as Rehan Mate (22), Sarfaraz Harpanhalli (22), and Moin Nalbandh (23). All three resided in the same room. A fourth individual, Shahanwaz (19), was critically injured and is currently receiving intensive medical treatment at the district hospital.

According to preliminary investigations, the four friends sealed all windows and doors before going to bed. However, the coal grate’s combustion in the enclosed area quickly reduced oxygen levels and produced deadly amounts of odorless, colorless carbon monoxide. Asphyxiation resulted from the poisonous gas overpowering the sleeping occupants.

Belagavi Police Commissioner Bhushan Borse and staff from the Malmaruti Police Station immediately responded to the scene. Commissioner Borse commented, “Initial belief suggests these three youths succumbed to suffocation from carbon monoxide gas after lighting a coal grate for warmth. We are conducting a thorough investigation, and one injured youth remains under treatment.”

MLA Asif Seth also visited the site expressing profound sorrow over the tragic outcome.

The Malmaruti police have initiated the necessary procedures.
