Two Days Lost, Public Issues Pending: Opposition Demands One-Week Extension of Karnataka Legislature’s Winter Session

Two Days Lost, Public Issues Pending:

Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, R. Ashoka, has formally requested Speaker UT Khader to extend the ongoing winter session of the State Legislature by an additional week. Ashoka cited the necessity for detailed discussions on several unresolved issues, including problems faced by the North Karnataka region and the perceived deteriorating law and order situation across the state. In his letter to the Speaker, Ashoka pointed out that the session, which commenced on December 8 and is scheduled to wrap up on December 19, has already lost two working days, resulting in numerous pressing public matters remaining undiscussed. The Opposition leader specifically flagged that the Chief Minister and concerned ministers have yet to respond to issues raised by legislators pertaining to North Karnataka. He also highlighted the poor utilization of funds across various government departments, arguing that members require more time to debate these financial and regional concerns meaningfully. Stressing the seriousness of the law and order decline, Ashoka urged the Speaker to take an immediate decision to grant the one-week extension to ensure thorough deliberation and the formulation of concrete solutions.
