Woman Dies by Suicide in Athani; Family Alleges Dowry Harassment

In a tragic incident from Belagavi district, a 35-year-old woman died by suicide in Athani, with her family alleging prolonged dowry harassment by her husband.

The deceased, identified as Sangeeta Gadivaddar, had been married for around 15 years. According to her family, what began as a normal marriage gradually turned distressing due to repeated financial demands and domestic disputes.

Family members claim that her husband had been pressuring her to bring ₹2 lakh from her parental home for house construction. The ongoing demands reportedly led to frequent arguments, causing severe mental stress.

On Tuesday night, the couple allegedly had another argument over the issue. The next day, in the absence of other family members, Sangeeta was found dead, suspected to have died by suicide.

However, her family has rejected the suicide claim, alleging that she was assaulted and killed by her husband and in-laws. They have demanded strict action and a thorough investigation.

Police have registered a case and begun an inquiry. The body has been sent for post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
