Tragic incident in Belagavi: 21-year-old student dies by suicide in hostel on her birthday; investigation underway.

A tragic incident was reported in Belagavi on Monday after a 21-year-old college student allegedly died by suicide at the Post-Matric Girls’ Hostel in Azam Nagar, operated by the Scheduled Castes Welfare Department.

The deceased has been identified as Kaveri Umesh Naik, a native of Kataballi village in Hukkeri taluk and a final-year BSc student. She was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside the hostel room.

The incident has left fellow students and hostel residents shocked, especially as it occurred on her birthday.

According to sources, Kaveri had gotten engaged around three months ago and was reportedly set to marry a police constable in the near future.

Soon after the incident came to light, officials from the APMC police station visited the hostel, conducted a spot inspection, and began an investigation.

The exact reason behind the suspected suicide is yet to be determined.
